Throughout 2024 I am writing monthly a feature for Your Dog magazine on dog-friendly holidays. I’m always on the look out for great examples of dog-friendly accommodation in the most beautiful parts of the UK. Do get in touch if you know of anywhere! I’m always amazed at some of the brilliant places that are on offer, and immediately want to visit every single one of them with my dogs. There’s nothing nicer than spending your days exploring new places with your dog, and then returning home to comfortable accommodation, whether that is a hotel, a B&B, self-catering cottage, or a rural retreat where you can really get away from it all and relax.
I think the best dog-friendly accommodation is comfortable, clean, and has no shouty rules stuck up on the walls! I want to find places that are truly dog-friendly rather than just dog-tolerant. Dogs are part of the family, and most owners want to have a home from home vibe when they are on vacation, knowing that they can just come back after a fun day of exploring and chill out without worrying whether or not their dog is allowed on the sofa. The best holiday owners provide throws for the furniture, lots of information on local walks and dog-friendly pubs and cafes, secure garden areas and if you are lucky there may even be a local dog-sitting service as well.
